SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL

Sustainable Construction means to adopt the use of such materials and products in construction that will need less use of natural resources and escalate the reusability of such materials and products for the similar purpose, thus decreasing waste as well. It is due to this reason sustainable design in the construction industry has become mainstream. Sustainable construction also enhances the resilience of the industry as such materials are readily available in the world market. Steel, other metals, glass and prefabricated parts using combinations of these, as well as recyclable substitutes for concrete are examples of sustainable materials and products. Wastes that are generated in other sectors for the production of building materials, such as quarry wastes (marble, slate, etc.) are being significantly reused in the construction materials. Also, we have wastes produced by industrial processes like ashes or mud that are used as partial replacement of fine aggregate in concrete. There are other original techniques, such manufacturing concrete with recycled tyre rubber; using the mud from sewage plants for making bricks, or wood and cork remains (pruning, sawmills, sanding dust, etc.), and especially vegetal fibers (bamboo, coconut, etc.) that, once mixed with cement, also work as insulators.
